Recently, the National Energy Administration held an analysis meeting on the national renewable energy development and construction situation in January 2024.

One is to focus on the construction of large-scale wind and photovoltaic power generation bases, and promote the timely completion and production of base projects. The second is to focus on the construction of local consumption projects and achieve rapid and orderly development. The third is to ensure the development factors of new energy and guide the sustainable and healthy development of the industry. We must focus on policy supply, continue to coordinate and cooperate with all parties, deepen institutional and mechanism reforms, improve policy measures, and establish a long-term mechanism to promote the high-quality development of renewable energy.

Recently, the National Energy Administration held a video conference on the analysis of the national renewable energy development and construction situation in January 2024. Wan Jinsong, a member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the National Energy Administration, attended the meeting and delivered a speech, while Xiang Haiping, the chief engineer of the bureau, presided over the meeting.

The meeting summarized the overall development of renewable energy in China in 2023, sorted out the key work considerations for 2024, listened to the implementation of opinions and suggestions put forward in the last monthly situation analysis meeting, the progress of major renewable energy project construction in China, and the 2024 wind and photovoltaic power generation production plan. The meeting analyzed the situation and problems faced by the development of renewable energy, studied relevant measures and suggestions, and proposed the next step of work requirements.

The meeting pointed out that in 2023, China will maintain a good trend of high-speed development, high proportion utilization, and high-quality consumption of renewable energy, which has played an important role in ensuring power supply, promoting energy transformation, and expanding effective investment. As of the end of December 2023, the total installed capacity of renewable energy generation in China reached 1.516 billion kilowatts, accounting for 51.9% of the total installed capacity of renewable energy generation in the country and accounting for nearly 40% of the global total installed capacity of renewable energy generation; In 2023, the newly installed capacity of renewable energy in China was 305 million kilowatts, accounting for 82.7% of the country's newly installed power generation and half of the world's newly installed capacity, exceeding the total of other countries in the world; The national renewable energy generation is nearly 3 trillion kilowatt hours, which is close to one-third of the total social electricity consumption; The main renewable energy power generation projects in China have completed investments exceeding 769.7 billion yuan, accounting for about 80% of the total investment in power engineering; In 2023, the production of key components such as wind turbines accounted for over 70% of the global market, while the production of photovoltaic polysilicon, silicon wafers, battery cells, and modules accounted for over 80% of the global market.

The meeting emphasized that in 2023, with the joint efforts of the entire industry and various aspects, China's renewable energy development has achieved remarkable results, with a more stable global leading advantage and becoming the main force in the development of clean energy in the world. However, there are also some unbalanced and insufficient problems, and it is still necessary to adhere to problem orientation, highlight key points, and accelerate various work with strong and effective measures.
